Auditions for 2026-2027 WIND SYMPHONY

Auditions for the Fall 2026 Semester are due NO LATER than Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 11:59pm. Auditions should be submitted via the Google Form Below and may include a Youtube link or Google Drive link with videos of the requirements below.

Audition Requirements

CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (Grades 10-11)

• Completed Application (Click here.)

• Chromatic Scale

  • Play the full range of the instrument (as much of the range as you can) slurring up the scale, and staccato down. Pay close attention to tone quality and steady tempo.

  • An easy way to do this is to start on a comfortable concert F in the middle of your range, then slur up as far as you can go, then turn around and go back down, going as low as you can go, tonguing each note.

• Prepared Etude (Click here to access the etudes.)

  • Use only etude 3E for your instrument. Play at the marked tempo and go as far as you can play with excellent tone, correct notes, rhythms, and articulations. The whole etude must be performed at the audition.

  • Be sure that you practice with a metronome!

Remember, auditions are about what you can do, not what you can't. Play what makes you sound the best!

Auditions for 2026-27 school year VARSITY JAZZ BAND

Auditions for the Fall 2026 Semester are due NO LATER than Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 11:59pm. Auditions should be submitted via the Google Form Below and may include a Youtube link or Google Drive link with videos of the requirements below.

CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (Grades 10-11)

WIND PLAYERS/PIANO/BASS/GUITAR

• Any 4 Major Scales Swung with Major 9 Arpeggio.

  • Memorized - play from memory, tongued legato in swing. Play one octave on as many scales as you can, going up to the 9th scale degree and back down followed by a Major 9 Arpeggio (C E G B D B G E C).

• Audition Excerpt (Click Here)

  • Alto/Tenor Sax: Measures 33-65

  • Bari Sax: Measures 129-161

  • Trumpets: Measures 49-70

  • Trombones: Measures 149-169

  • Piano: Measures 1-65 (With a solo)

  • Bass: Measures 1-65

  • Guitar: Measures 1-65

Note: Placements may be assigned as different parts than auditioned for.

DRUMMERS

• 8 measures Swing, Rock, and any Latin Pattern at 120bpm.

  • Play Measures 49-60 with appropriate fills.

Auditions for 2026-27 school year ADVANCED PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

Auditions for the Fall 2026 Semester are due NO LATER than Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 11:59pm. Auditions should be submitted via the Google Form Below and may include a Youtube link or Google Drive link with videos of the requirements below.

CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (Grades 10-11)

Major Scales (C-G-F-D-Bb-Eb-A)

2 Octaves, alternating hands, full strokes. Pay close attention to using correct piston strokes. Quality of sound is more important that speed, play the correct notes with proper technique.

Prepared Etudes for ALL of the following instruments:

Snare Drum (click here)

• Perform each of the following Snare Rudiments in an Open-Closed-Open succession

  • Paradiddle

  • 5 Stroke Roll

  • Flamacue

• Timpani (click here)

• Bass Drum (click here)

• Play at marked tempi and go as far as you can play with excellent technique, correct notes, rhythms, dynamics and articulations.

• Remember, auditions are about what you can do, not what you can't. Play what makes you sound the best!

CONCERT BAND

• The Concert Band is an unauditioned ensemble for incoming Sophomores and any Juniors or Seniors who wish to join by request.

SYMPHONIC BAND

• The Symphonic Band is an unauditioned ensemble for any Juniors or Seniors who wish to join by request.

JV JAZZ BAND

• The JV Jazz Band is an unauditioned ensemble for any Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors who wish to join by request. Students in JV Jazz must also be enrolled in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Wind Symphony.

INTERMEDIATE PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

• The Intermediate Percussion Ensemble is an unauditioned ensemble for any Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors who wish to join by request. At least 1 year of playing experience is required (does not have to be on percussion!).
