Concert Bb Major Scale - Tongued up, slurred down - As many octaves as you are comfortable - Any Tempo.
Audition Requirements (Wind Symphony)
Completed Application (Click here.) This application is for consideration for next year's band placement.
Chromatic Scale
Play the full range of the instrument (as much of the range as you can) slurring up the scale, and staccato down. Pay close attention to tone quality and steady tempo.
An easy way to do this is to start on a comfortable concert F in the middle of your range, then slur up as far as you can go, then turn around and go back down, going as low as you can go, tonguing each note.
12 Major Scales
Play as much as you can, from memory or paper, tongued legato. Play two octaves on as many scales as you can. Again, pay close attention to tone quality and steady tempo. Two major scales will be selected at random during your audition.
Metronome Etude (Click here for the metronome etude.)
Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the etude sheet.
Be sure that you practice with a metronome set to 90 bpm.
Prepared Etude (Click here to access the etudes.)
Use only the etude for your instrument. Play at the marked tempo and go as far as you can play with excellent tone, correct notes, rhythms, and articulations. The whole etude must be performed at the audition.
Be sure that you practice with a metronome!
Remember, auditions are about what you can do, not what you can't. Play what makes you sound the best!
